The playfulness and invention of Tom Foulsham’s kinetic sculpture is full of humanity and humour. It is also a technical high-wire act, a precision balancing and counter-balancing of improvised and found objects, often threaded and conjoined into larger virtuoso mechanisms that harness and animate space in completely unexpected ways. Foulsham’s singular vision reminds us that the world is always poised on the edge, a universe that depends on the most intricate relationship of structures, gravities, pressures and energies in its perpetual motion. Yet big and serious ideas are also, in his hands, made intimate, tactile and poetic. Work with a rare buoyancy.
Tom Foulsham was born in 1981 and studied Architecture at UCL and Design Products at the RCA. He lives and works in London.
