Press release
The Trustees of the Anthony Shaw Collection have great pleasure in announcing the next display at 11 Billing Place, London SW10 will be
‘Five Lives with Clay’,
15 May to 31 May 2009
showing the work of Gordon Baldwin, Ewen Henderson, Bryan Illsley, Gillian Lowndes and Sara Radstone covering much of their working lives.
This display is to coincide with the Crafts Council's Collect at the Saatchi gallery and will be open 11.00 - 17.00 on the 15th, 16th and 17th May, otherwise by appointment.
Anthony Shaw describes these five artists as his favourite and the reason the Collection has continued. ‘We are very luck to have work spanning nearly 30 years for each artist
and for Gordon Baldwin almost 50 years. I have journeyed with them, looked at the world through their eyes and sought the qualities that inspire them. For me they share an
openness in their work - always seeking answers, never a statement with a full stop. The fundamental qualities of clay predominate with the added uncertainty of firing.
Really they are paintings surrounding sculptural forms but not decorated pottery. Gillian Lowndes is the exception, her work being more graphic and suggesting drawings.
Above all they are my art and have become a strong and inseparable part of me.’
