Raef Baldwin (born 1959) is a versatile artist in so-called 'formatures', one who works in several media, producing garden objects and sculpture, as well as decorative pieces and furniture for the home. His art is consistently playful and inventive; weathervanes, fountains, wall mirrors, birdtables, chairs, cupboards, ceramics and opulently painted screens that often have a surreal left-of-field character.
The functional nature of much of his open-air work gives it a natural kinetic quality, work that is very much about movement and animation, as well as the rich interplay of different components, colours and materials resourcefully combined.
